1. Purpose of this page
This page explains how to use DexTask more safely on campus. It covers Rides, Gigs, Campus Market meet-ups, reporting, and what DexTask can and cannot do. It is guidance. It is not a promise that an incident cannot happen, and it is not a substitute for emergency services.
Legal obligations are in the Terms and Conditions. Data practices are in the Privacy Policy. Payment outcomes are in Payments, Refunds, and Disputes. Conduct standards are in the Community Guidelines.
2. What DexTask can help with
DexTask can:
- limit matching features to verified students and Approved Operators, subject to the limits of any verification system;
- show live tracking on supported keke trips and on physical Gigs where the executor's location is shared;
- hold Gig and Campus Market payments through Paystack until a product condition is met;
- provide in-app chat so that you do not have to exchange a number before you are ready;
- review reports, restrict Accounts, and share limited information with competent authorities where we reasonably believe there is a serious risk;
- point you to support@dextask.app, in-app Help and support, ops@dextask.app for operator issues, and hello@dextask.app or inquiry@dextask.app for partnerships.
DexTask cannot sit in the keke with you, inspect every used laptop, or watch an errand in the market. Other Users are independent people. Treat them with the same caution you would use with any campus acquaintance you have only just met.
3. Before you go
Keep the App updated. Tell a friend where you are going if a meet-up is unusual. Meet in daylight where you can. Choose a pickup or handover point that other students actually use: a known gate, a busy junction, the front of a faculty, not an unlit path behind a closed building.
Check the profile and, for sales, the Listing photos. If a price is far below any reasonable campus price, assume risk. If a Gig pays a large sum for a vague task, assume risk.
Do not send a card PIN, a banking token, or a DexTask password to anyone, including a person who claims to be support. DexTask staff will not ask for your password or PIN by email.
4. Rides
Confirm the operator and vehicle against what the App shows before you board, using the details the product actually displays. If they do not match, do not enter.
Share your trip with a trusted contact if you wish, using your phone's ordinary sharing tools. Live tracking in the App is for you as the requesting student on supported routes. It is not a public broadcast.
Wear a seatbelt or other protection if the vehicle has it. Ask the operator to drive in a way you can accept. You may end a trip and report if you feel unsafe. Pay through the method the product requires; do not be bullied into an unofficial extra cash amount that contradicts a confirmed in-app fare, except where the product itself provides a lawful extra-charge path.
Operators should not take requests while exhausted, unlicensed, or otherwise unfit. Students should be at the pin they set. Fake pins waste time and create conflict.
If there is a crash or an assault, contact emergency services first. Then send support@dextask.app the trip identifier.
5. Walking and cycling directions
Walk and bike modes are navigation aids. They do not inspect lighting, flooding, or campus closures. If a suggested path looks wrong, do not follow it. DexTask ratings after those modes may ask you to rate the product, not a rider, because there was no assigned operator.
6. Gigs and errands
Originators should describe the venue and the item clearly. If you are handing over goods, photograph them. Fund Escrow before expecting work to start.
Executors should read the brief, keep required location on, and not accept more concurrent physical tasks than they can perform. If a shop is closed or you cannot continue, use the in-App drop or support path. Do not take goods home "for later" without the originator's recorded agreement.
For queue-standing or venue tasks, be actually present. False check-in is both a Terms breach and a safety problem, because it tells the originator you are there when you are not.
Do not accept Gigs that send you off campus at night to an unknown address unless you are comfortable with that risk and have told someone. DexTask does not currently describe itself as an intercity courier.
If you suspect theft or non-delivery, use the dispute tools and support. Do not take the law into your own hands.
7. Campus Market meet-ups
Prefer handover at a busy campus spot. Bring a friend if the item is expensive. Inspect the item before you confirm receipt in the App. Once you confirm receipt, Escrow may release according to product rules.
Sellers should bring the item in the Listing, not a substitute. Buyers should not demand a test that would damage the item without agreement.
Do not go to a private off-campus apartment for a cheap used book. If the other party refuses any public meeting, walk away and report.
Shop pages on the Website are for sharing and discovery. They are not a reason to skip App verification or Escrow.
8. Money and scams
Pay in the App for Gigs and Market checkouts that the product routes through Paystack. A person who asks you to "just transfer to this personal account because Escrow is slow" is asking you to give up the holding arrangement both sides were offered.
DexTask will not ask you to pay a "verification tax" by gift-card. We will not ask you to install a remote-control app. We will not ask for your OTP.
Refunds return to the original Paystack source. Nobody from DexTask needs a new bank account from you in order to refund you. See Payments, Refunds, and Disputes.
9. Data and device safety
Lock your phone. Enable a device biometric lock if you wish; that lock stays on the device. Do not jailbreak or root in a way that disables ordinary safety features if you can avoid it.
Be careful which photos you upload. A listing photo that shows your hostel door number and a key may tell a stranger too much.
If you lose the device, change your password from another device and write to support@dextask.app.
10. Reporting an incident
For immediate danger, call Nigerian emergency services.
Then report to DexTask:
- In the App: Profile, then Help and support, or the support form linked from the campus brief.
- Email: support@dextask.app
- Operators and fleet: ops@dextask.app
- Partnerships that are not an emergency: hello@dextask.app or inquiry@dextask.app
Include what happened, when, the identifiers you have, and whether police or campus security were contacted. We aim to reply to email support within one business day. In-app materials describe faster handling for some tickets. Neither is a substitute for the police.
We may restrict an Account while we review. We do not promise a particular outcome. We do not publish internal investigation methods.
False reports intended to harm another student can lead to action against the reporter.
11. What we will not claim
We will not claim that verification makes a person safe. We will not claim that live tracking prevents every crime. We will not claim that Escrow is insurance. We will not claim that FUTA or any other university endorses DexTask as its official security service.
Trust on DexTask is a set of tools and rules. You still decide whether to board, to hand over goods, or to meet.
12. Updates
This page may be updated as campuses and features change. The date at the top of the legal layout is the publication date of the current text.
